“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." --William Arthur Ward
My beliefs:
- All students can learn
- Relationships with students, staff, and parents matter and should be a part of the curriculum and instruction work
- Challenging curriculum promotes thinking skills
- Curriculum should not be isolated, integrate it with rich learning opportunities
- Active learning and engagement of students is a priority, so teachers need the tools to give this opportunity with students
- Ongoing and connected professional development leads to improved achievement
- School improvement is an ongoing process
All OF my curriculum work centers around my Seven Key Principles of SUCCESS:
- S – School district’s vision, mission, and strategic plans play a role in the curriculum-mapping design
- U-Understand and implement a vertical alignment that address any gaps in grade level content and includes more intentional academic vocabulary
- C - Consider the academic journey from the past and present curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices; and how to change the direction to improve curriculum in the future for higher achievement results
- C - Create opportunity to simplify access to materials for teachers
- E – Engagement strategies are built into all curriculum work to make learning opportunities more enriching and lifelong
- S – Student success is the primary goal of all the work. This includes considering needs of students such as differentiation, modifications, and English as a Second Language
- S- Support with curriculum in the form of coaching and follow up to ensure a solid alignment exists between the written, taught, and assessed curriculum
